In the early morning on October 1st, the team at Central Park Modern Dentistry was preparing for the 2017 Denver Kidney Walk!
This Kidney Walk, hosted by the National Kidney Foundation, is the largest fundraiser of its kind in the country. 80 cents out of each dollar raised goes toward education, public healthy, community service, and research to find a cure for kidney disease.
The Denver Kidney Walk raised over $140,000 this year! We were there for the 5K, music, dog costume contest, and more!
The Silent Disease
The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases says that 14% of the American population suffers from some form of kidney disease.
Included in that 14% are nearly 500,000 people who need to regularly receive dialysis treatment. During these three hours procedures, patients are attached to machines that function as kidneys, filtering their blood, adding nutrients to it, and infusing it back into the patients’ systems.
Sometimes, kidney disease is referred to as “the silent disease,” because the symptoms are difficult to notice.
