Bridges & Crowns

Restore Your Smile

Dental CrownYou may be in need of restorative dentistry work if you have missing or damaged teeth. One of the best solutions for repairing broken teeth is the use of a crown or a bridge. Dentures can also be used, but crowns and bridges are a permanent solution, as they are fixed to existing teeth and can only be removed by a dentist.

Do I Need a Crown or Bridge?

Bridges and crowns can be used in many situations. Your dentist may recommend them to:

  • Cover a damaged, discolored, or poorly structured tooth.
  • Cover a dental implant.
  • Keep a weak tooth from fracturing.
  • Replace a large filling when there’s isn’t enough tooth remaining.

What is a Bridge?

A bridge is a fixed partial denture that is joined to adjacent teeth or dental implants. It is called a bridge because it literally bridges the gap caused by missing teeth. In many cases, tooth structure must be reduced on the teeth on either side of the bridge so that the bridge can fit correctly. Bridges can be made from porcelain, gold, alloys, or a number of other materials.

What is a Dental Crown?

A crown is a tooth-shaped cap placed over a tooth that is either threatened by a large cavity or to protect a weakened tooth. Crowns are also used to cover dental implants.  At Central Park Modern Dentistry, we have a number of crown material types from full porcelain to full metal, so the dentist will recommend the best option for you.
